Yes, in most cases. If you are blonde and want to color black, the color may not be balanced and may need some warmth. Purchase 2 boxes of hair color if you have thick or long hair.
As soon as any color is on your skin- wipe it off with a damp towel. Use some conditioner along your hairline, ears and back of neck as a skin barrier BEFORE you begin applying color. If you use a petroleum product, and it gets in/on your hair, the hair color may not be able to penetrate it to color your hair.
Permanent hair color makes a permanent change to the hair fiber. Black permanent color will need to be redone as the roots are growing in or it can be ignored and allowed to fade/soften over time. The fading is not quick, unless you go to a salon or a color correction or bleach it out at home. If you think bleaching at home is your only option, then be sure to call the Consumer Hotline for more information. Semi permanent color will fade with each shampoo. Using a shampoo that is not design for color treated hair or a shampoo that is too cleansing can strip away your color.
Permanent hair makes a permanent change but does not work like a bleach or a stripping agent. Permanent color lifts natural pigment and deposits the shade desired. Semi Permanent color deposits the new color on to the hair strand without disrupting that natural structure of the hair and washes away with follow up shampoos.
